It’s important to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes every day, but it doesn’t end there. You also have to make sure that you are using a good toothbrush. You might wonder if you need a new toothbrush or not, so here are three signs for when it’s time to get a new toothbrush:

  • The bristles are frayed: Usually after three months of using a new toothbrush the bristles start to fray from so much use, so your toothbrush isn’t as effective. It’s important to get a new toothbrush, so you can be confident your teeth are protected from tooth decay and gum disease.
  • You dropped it on the floor or in the sink: Since you brush your teeth in the bathroom, if you drop your toothbrush there it’s important to throw it away. The bathroom has a lot of bacteria hanging around. Even if you drop your toothbrush and pick it up right away, it can still collect bacteria you don’t want in your mouth.
  • You didn’t dry it out before storing it: If you put your toothbrush in a traveling bag or container when it was still wet, you should throw it out. In a moist environment, bacteria will start to build up on your toothbrush. To avoid spreading that bacteria to your teeth, you should get a new toothbrush after traveling. Always air dry your toothbrush between uses to prevent bacteria from growing on it.
