This is one of the most common questions we receive regarding dentures, and we typically discover the answer during the initial consultation. You may have an idea of the type of dentures you want, but our dentists may think another solution is a better idea. We’ll help you decide on the right dentures for you during your free consultation.

Depending on how long you’ve been without teeth, there may be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to chewing and eating with your new dentures. But, within a few months, you should have no problem eating just about anything you’d like, apart from chewing gum. Chewing gum is not recommended for those with dentures.

While you can wear your dentures at night, it’s not recommended that you sleep in them. By removing your dentures at night, you’ll be able to give your bones and gums a chance to take a break from the pressure of having the denture on throughout the day. You should also never wear your dentures for 24 hours straight without taking care of your denture hygiene routine. Dentures should always be thoroughly cleaned and stored in water during the night.

The lifespan of dentures varies depending on how well they’re maintained in terms of cleaning and repair. With proper maintenance, you can expect dentures to last at least 5 years. Things like chips and cracks in dentures can affect their overall structural integrity, so it’s important to ensure you get your dentures repaired whenever damage is discovered.

It’s normal to experience minor irritation and soreness while being fitted with dentures for the first time. For most people, this pain fades once your mouth has gotten accustomed to the dentures. If you had teeth removed before being fitted with dentures, it’s common to experience pain for days or weeks after your extraction. Due to the minor discomfort that can come with a new set of dentures, it’s recommended that you visit your dentist often to ensure that they’re fitting perfectly and not causing you any pain.
